He served in the Byzantine army reaching the highest ranks of hierarchy. At the age of 35 he met John an ascetic and venerable elder, who taught him the word of God and the ascetic life. He became a monk; was ordained a presbyter and was honored with the office of the archimandrite and chancellor. A few years after the fall of Constantinople in 1453 A.D., the Saint went to Macedonia where he became a monk, having Saint Nicolaos following him as a disciple. The persecutions of the Christians led him to Mytilini in Lesvos where he became an abbot at the Monastery of the Birth of the Virgin Mary. In 1463 A.D., Lesvos fell to the Turks and he died in martyrdom.\u003c\/p\u003e\n","brand":"Christianity Art","offers":[{"title":"13x10 cm || 5.1x3.9 in","offer_id":67669090894193,"sku":"oen1791500530526","price":22.14,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"21x16 cm || 8.3x6.3 in","offer_id":67669090926961,"sku":"opz1791500530527","price":54.69,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true},{"title":"29x21 cm || 11.4x8.3 in","offer_id":67669090959729,"sku":"xcc1791500530528","price":82.73,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1017\/3307\/3265\/files\/saints-raphael-nicolaos-and-irene---metallic-icon-on-wood-locally-gold-plated---_1.jpg?v=1791500535","url":"https:\/\/sagepleat.shop\/products\/saints-raphael-nicolaos-and-irene-metallic-icon-on-wood-locally-gold-plated-mount-athos","provider":"My Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
